Kingsborough Community College (often called KCC) is a public college in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, New York. It's a special kind of college called a community college. KCC is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. It's the only community college you'll find in Brooklyn!

KCC's Story: A Look Back
Kingsborough Community College first opened its doors in 1963. Today, about 14,000 students from all over the world study here. The college has been recognized many times for being one of the best community colleges. The Aspen Institute has named it a "Top Community College" seven times in a row! It even made it into the top 10 three times, most recently in 2023.
In 2019, Leonard Riggio, who started the famous Barnes & Noble bookstores, gave $1 million to KCC. This money helps students get scholarships, which means they get help paying for college.
What Can You Study at KCC?
KCC offers more than 50 different study programs. This means you can learn about many exciting subjects!
For example, KCC has the only program in New York City that teaches you about polysomnographic technology. This is about studying sleep! They also have the first program in NYC for surgical technology. This teaches you how to help out in an operating room.
KCC was also the first college in Brooklyn to offer training for paramedics. These are the people who help in emergencies. The college also has a special program for careers at sea. They even have their own boats and a dock!
Exploring the KCC Campus
The KCC campus is huge, about 71 acres (that's like 50 football fields!). It's located in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn. From the campus, you can see Sheepshead Bay, Jamaica Bay, and the big Atlantic Ocean.
The college campus used to be a training center for sailors and military members.
There's even a real, working lighthouse on top of the Marine Academic Center (MAC) building! It's lighthouse number 34360. It has been flashing a white light every 4 seconds since 1990.
The library at Kingsborough Community College is named after Robert Kibbee. He used to be in charge of all the CUNY colleges. KCC also has a large performing arts center with 743 seats. It's named after Leon M. Goldstein, who was the college president for many years.
Guess what? Kingsborough is the only college in New York City with its very own private beach! You can even go swimming there in the summer.
Get Active: Sports at KCC
If you love sports, KCC has teams that compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Their teams are called "The Wave." They are also part of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).
Boys can play baseball, basketball, tennis, and track & field. Girls can play basketball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.
