Kingsborough Community College, often called KCC, is a public college located in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, New York. It's a special kind of college known as a community college. KCC is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. It is also the only community college in Brooklyn.

History of Kingsborough Community College
Kingsborough Community College was started in 1963. Today, it helps about 14,000 students from many different backgrounds. The college has been recognized as a top community college many times. The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program named it a "Top Community College" seven times in a row. It even finished in the top 10 three times, most recently in 2023.
In 2019, Leonard Riggio, who founded Barnes & Noble bookstores, gave $1 million to KCC. This money was used to create scholarships for students at Kingsborough.
What You Can Study at KCC
KCC offers more than 50 different study programs. These programs help students prepare for many exciting jobs. For example, KCC has the only program in New York City that teaches you to be a polysomnographic technologist. These experts help people with sleep problems.
KCC also has New York City's first and only accredited degree program in surgical technology. This teaches students how to assist in surgeries. It was also the first college in Brooklyn to have a paramedic program approved by the New York State Department of Health. Paramedics are emergency medical helpers. KCC also has a special maritime program. This program teaches students about careers that involve working on boats or at sea. It even has its own boats and a dock!
KCC Campus and Its Features
The Kingsborough Community College campus is located in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn. It covers about 71 acres (28.7 hectares) of land. From the campus, you can see Sheepshead Bay, Jamaica Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean. The college campus is built on the site of an old training center for sailors and military members.
A real lighthouse sits on top of the Marine Academic Center (MAC) building. This lighthouse, number 34360, has been flashing a white light every 4 seconds since 1990. It was designed by Gruzen Samton Architects.
The library at Kingsborough Community College is named after Robert Kibbee. He used to be the Chancellor of the City University of New York. The college also has a performing arts center with 743 seats. It is named the Leon M. Goldstein Performing Arts Center. This honors Leon M. Goldstein, who was the college president from 1971 to 1999. Kingsborough is special because it's the only college in New York City with its own private beach. Students can go swimming there during the summer.
Sports at Kingsborough
Kingsborough Community College has sports teams that are part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The teams are called "The Wave." They are also members of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) for community colleges.
Boys' sports at KCC include baseball, basketball, tennis, and track & field. Girls' sports include basketball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.
