History of Kingsville
Kingsville got its name from a man named Abraham King. He was born in 1760 and passed away in Kingsville in 1836 when he was 76 years old.
Abraham King's Land and Home
Abraham King bought about 290 acres (1.17 square kilometers) of land in the Kingsville area in 1816. This land came from several older property grants. He lived in a large old house, which later became known as the Kingsville Inn. Today, it is the Lassahn Funeral Home on Belair Road.
Early Businesses and Post Office
The King family ran a tavern in Kingsville. A tavern was a place where people could eat, drink, and stay overnight. In 1829, a post office was set up at King's Tavern. George King, likely a relative of Abraham, was the first postmaster. On January 8, 1830, the post office was officially named "Kingsville."

In 1840, a state geologist named John Henry Alexander was the first person to include Kingsville on an official map. This helped people know where the community was located.
