Exploring Kintra's Location
Kintra is part of a larger area called Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon. It is home to about 15 people who live there all year round. Many visitors also come during different seasons to enjoy the area.
How Kintra is Laid Out
Most of Kintra's houses are built in a line along the shore. A small, unpaved road runs between the houses and the beach. There is also a low wall and a grassy area that separate the homes from the sand.
Kintra's Changing Beach
The beach at Kintra looks different depending on the tide.
- At high tide, the water comes in very far. Sometimes, there is no beach at all, and the grassy area gets covered by the sea.
- At low tide, the water pulls back a lot. This can reveal up to 50 meters (about 164 feet) of sandy beach.
The Bay and Its Islands
Kintra is located in a bay that is protected by many small islands. These islands and rocky outcrops are made of local granite stones. They help keep the bay calm and sheltered from strong waves.
Nearby Places to Visit
Kintra is about 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) northeast of Fionnphort. Fionnphort is a small village known for its ferry service to Iona, a famous historic island.
