Exploring the Ross of Mull
The Ross of Mull is home to several villages and small communities. The main villages are Bunessan and Fionnphort. Other smaller places include Ardtun, Camas, Carsaig, Knockan, Pennyghael, and Uisken.
Some places like Knocknafenaig, Suidhe, and Shiaba are now empty. They were once busy settlements that were cleared during a time called the Highland Clearances. This was when many people had to leave their homes.
How People Live and Work
For a long time, people on the Ross of Mull made a living from farming small plots of land (called crofting), fishing, collecting seaweed (kelp), and working in granite quarries.
Things have changed a lot since then! By 2011, tourism became the biggest job provider. About 29% of people worked in tourism, helping visitors enjoy the beautiful area. Farming and fishing together made up about 15% of jobs.

More recently, the movie The Silent Storm was also filmed here. It starred actors like Damian Lewis and Andrea Riseborough.
