Ali Kirunda Kivejinja (born June 12, 1935 – died December 19, 2020), known as Kirunda Kivejinja, was an important Ugandan politician. He was a senior advisor to the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni. At the time he passed away, he was the Second Deputy Prime Minister and a Minister without portfolio in the Ugandan Cabinet.
Before this, he worked as the Minister for Relief and Social Rehabilitation. He was also the Minister of Internal Affairs and a Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda. From 2016 to 2019, he served as the Minister of East African Community Affairs.
He passed away on December 19, 2020. His death was linked to COVID-19, which he had been fighting for about two weeks at Mulago Referral Hospital.

Kirunda Kivejinja's Early Life and Education
Ali Kirunda Kivejinja went to Kibuli Junior School and Busoga College Mwiri in Uganda. After that, he took a special course at Madras Christian College in India.
He then earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Zoology from Delhi University. He received a scholarship from the Government of India for his studies. While in India, he was the treasurer of the African Students Association (ASA). This group included other future leaders like Bingu wa Mutharika.
Kirunda Kivejinja's Political Career
Ali Kirunda Kivejinja came back to Uganda in 1962. In the 1960s, he worked as a political organizer for the Uganda People's Congress. This was the main political party in power at that time.
After the government changed in 1986, Kivejinja held many roles under President Yoweri Museveni. In 1986, he became the Minister of Relief and Social Rehabilitation. He also served as a Member of Parliament for the Bugweri area. Later, he was the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Third Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda.
From 2012, he became a Senior Presidential Advisor for Internal Affairs to President Museveni. In 2016, he was named the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs.
Kirunda Kivejinja's Legacy and Books
Ali Kirunda Kivejinja passed away on December 19, 2020. He died at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, Uganda. President Yoweri Museveni confirmed that his death was due to COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda.
Kivejinja also wrote a book called Uganda: The Crisis of Confidence. This book shares insights into Uganda's political history.
