Kitten Creek facts for kids
Kitten Creek is a small stream (which is like a mini-river!) located in the U.S. state of Missouri. It flows through parts of St. Clair County and Vernon County. This stream is a tributary of another stream called Clear Creek, meaning it flows into Clear Creek.
Where Kitten Creek Starts and Ends
Kitten Creek begins in the eastern part of Vernon County, south of a place called Harwood. The spot where a stream starts is called its headwaters. Here, the land is about 860 feet (260 m) high.
From its start, Kitten Creek flows mostly towards the east for about 5.5 miles (8.9 km). It then joins Clear Creek in the southwestern part of St. Clair County. The place where two streams meet is called a confluence. This meeting point is about 728 feet (222 m) above sea level. You can find this confluence about 3 miles (5 km) north of El Dorado Springs.
How Kitten Creek Got Its Name
Have you ever wondered how places get their names? Kitten Creek has a fun story behind its name! It was named because a local woman who lived nearby loved cats very much and had many pet cats. So, the people in the area decided to name the stream "Kitten Creek" in honor of her and her furry friends!
