Knik-Fairview is in Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska. It is about 17.5 miles (28 km) northeast of Anchorage. The community sits on the west side of the Knik Arm, which is part of the Cook Inlet. It is also 13 miles south of Wasilla.
The total area of Knik-Fairview is about 74.55 square miles (193 square kilometers). A small part of this area, about 1 square mile (2.6 square kilometers), is water.

Knik-Fairview first appeared on the U.S. Census in 1910. Back then, it was just called Knik. It was counted again from 1920 to 1940. For a while, it wasn't counted separately. Then, in 1980, it was counted as a small native village with only 10 people.
In 1990, it became a census-designated place (CDP). By 2000, it was officially named Knik-Fairview.
