The Koasek Abenaki Tribe is a group of people in Vermont who are recognized by the state. They say they are descendants of the Abenaki people, a Native American group.
It is important to know that they are not recognized by the United States federal government. Vermont does not have any federally recognized Native American tribes.
This group should not be confused with others, like the Ko'asek (Co'wasuck) Traditional Band of the Sovereign Abenaki Nation in New Hampshire. Many different groups use the term Cowasuck.
