Kogarah Bay is a lovely suburb located in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It's about 16 kilometres south of the main city centre of Sydney. This area is part of what's known as the St George region. Kogarah Bay is managed by the Georges River Council, which is its local government area.
The suburb gets its name from a small bay that sits on the northern side of the Georges River. Kogarah Bay is surrounded by other suburbs like Carss Park, Blakehurst, Carlton, Beverley Park, and Sans Souci. There's a small group of shops where Park Road meets the Princes Highway, which is handy for local residents.

A Look Back in Time
The name "Kogarah" comes from an Aboriginal word. It means "rushes" or "place of reeds." You might have seen it spelled differently in old records, like 'coggera' or 'cogerah'. But the spelling "Kogarah" became the official one when the railway line was built through the area in the 1880s. Originally, Kogarah Bay and Beverley Park were actually part of the larger suburb of Kogarah.
