Koggenland (which is Koggelân in the Frisian language) is a municipality. A municipality is like a local government area. It is located in the North Holland province of the Netherlands. It is also part of a region called West-Frisia.
Koggenland was created on January 1, 2007. This happened when two older municipalities, Obdam and Wester-Koggenland, joined together. The name "Koggenland" comes from the word "Kogge." In the Middle Ages, a "Kogge" was a special area. It included several villages that were under the same local rules.
