Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province (Persian: استان کهگیلویه و بویراحمد, Ostān-e Kohgīlūye va Būyer-Ahmad) is one of Iran's 31 provinces. It is located in the southwest part of the country. The capital city of this province is Yasuj.
This province covers an area of about 15,563 square kilometers. In 2016, around 713,052 people lived here. Most people in the province speak the Luri language.

Exploring the Geography
Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province is in the south of Iran. It shares its borders with five other provinces. To the east, you'll find Isfahan and Fars. To the south is Bushehr, and to the west is Khuzestan. Finally, to the north, it borders Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari.
The province is mostly covered by mountains, which are part of the Zagros mountain range. The highest point is the Dena summit, which stands at an amazing 5,109 meters tall! The Dena mountain range itself reaches over 4,000 meters and is covered with beautiful oak forests. Another important mountain here is Khamin or Khami, found in Gachsaran County.
Main Cities and Towns
Many people in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province live in cities. In fact, over half of the population lives in urban areas. The capital city, Yasuj, is the largest with about 134,532 residents. Another big city is Dogonbadan, with around 96,728 people. Other notable cities include Dehdasht and Likak.
