She began her journey at age 16. Her talent was noticed by a friend of her brother, Hasan Rizvi. Hasan is a dancer and also performed with Komal at different fashion events.
Komal released her first song in 1999. It was a very popular Punjabi bhangra song called "Bauji bauji bhangra saaday naal paoji". This song made her famous almost overnight.
She often writes the words for her own songs.

Komal Rizvi's Career
Acting Roles
Komal Rizvi's first acting role was for Pakistan Television (PTV). This was in the popular show Hawain in 1997. After that, she appeared in Lehrein. Other TV shows like Kabhi Kabhi, Teesra Peher, and Samandar Hai Darmiyan helped her become a leading actress. She received much praise for her role in Hum TV's Mujhay Roothnay Na Daina.
Even though she has been praised for her acting, Rizvi chooses her acting projects carefully. She tries to keep her main focus on singing. She looks for strong, realistic, and relatable scripts. She only accepts roles that she feels are good enough.
In September 2016, news came out that Rizvi would star in a Hollywood movie. This film was made by a Canadian production company. The movie, named Afreen, was planned for release in 2017. Rizvi said the film was "anti-ISIS and a pro-Muslim film."
Hosting TV Shows
Rizvi began her TV hosting career with a show called Karachi Nights With Komal. A big moment in her hosting career was a TV show for Hum in Pakistan. She hosted Hum TV Mornings With Komal and Nachley. She also hosted a popular dance reality show for ARY.
Singing Performances
Komal Rizvi was part of Coke Studio's third season. There, she performed "Daaneh Pe Daanah" with folk singer Akhtar Chanal Zahri. Zahri wrote and composed the song himself. It celebrates his home province, Balochistan. This Coke Studio version combined the folk song with a Sindhi Sufi classic, "Lal Meri Path." This mix took both songs to a new level in 2011.
The song was given a modern funk beat. It became a colorful musical example of different styles. Zahri and Rizvi, two strong but different singers, combined their voices. It was a symbolic celebration of being unique.
Rizvi also sang "Lambi Judaai." This is a classic song by Reshma. Reshma's "Lambi Judaai" from the 1983 Bollywood film Hero was a huge hit. Coke Studio presented this song with rich musical elements. It sounded like a beautiful song from the 1950s.
Both "Daaneh Pe Daanah" and "Lambi Judaai" were featured on the Top 10 all-time hits of Coke Studio. Komal Rizvi is the only female singer to appear on that list twice.
She has also performed many old Punjabi songs.
