Who is Kona Williams?

Kona Williams was born in Ottawa, Canada. Her father, Gordon Williams, is a Cree person from the Peguis First Nation in Manitoba. Her mother, Karen Jacobs-Williams, is a Mohawk person from Kahnawake. Both the Cree and Mohawk are important Indigenous groups in Canada.

What Does a Forensic Pathologist Do?

A forensic pathologist is a special kind of doctor. They work closely with police and legal teams. Their main job is to figure out how and why someone died. Becoming a Doctor

Kona Williams worked very hard to become a doctor. She studied medicine at the University of Ottawa. In 2009, she earned her medical degree, called an M.D.. After medical school, she spent five more years training. This training was in something called anatomical pathology. It means she learned a lot about how the human body is built and how diseases affect it. She then continued her advanced training at the University of Toronto. This extra study helped her become an expert in laboratory medicine and pathobiology.

In 2016, Kona Williams joined the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. This service helps police forces across Ontario. Dr. Williams uses her skills to provide important medical information. This information helps police understand what happened in complex cases. Her work helps bring answers to families and supports the justice system.
