Discovering Konnevesi's Past
The name Konnevesi was first written down in 1554. It was called Konnevessij äremarch back then. The name comes from Lake Konnevesi. People think the lake's name might come from an old Sámi word. This word means "deer."
Konnevesi became its own municipality in 1922. Before that, it was part of Rautalampi. In 2012, there was a plan for Konnevesi to join with the nearby town of Laukaa. However, the local government in Konnevesi decided not to go ahead with the merger.
