Konrad Stäheli (born December 17, 1866 – died November 5, 1931) was a famous Swiss sports shooter. He competed in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He took part in the 1900 Summer Olympics and the 1906 Intercalated Games.
Konrad Stäheli's Sporting Life
Konrad Stäheli was a very successful shooter. He competed in shooting at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. There, he won three shiny gold medals. These were for the Military Pistol team, the Military Rifle team, and the individual Military Rifle event.
He also earned a bronze medal in the free pistol competition. Another Swiss shooter, Karl Roderer, won the gold in that event.
Stäheli continued his success at the shooting at the 1906 Intercalated Games in Athens. He won five more medals there. These included one gold, two silver medals, and one bronze in individual rifle events. He also got another gold medal in the team rifle competition.
His nine total medals in Olympic shooting were a record for a long time. This record stood until Carl Osburn from the United States won 11 medals. Osburn achieved this between 1912 and 1924.
Stäheli also won the World Championship in 1906. This was for the 50 m Pistol event. In 1909, in Hamburg, Germany, he made history. He was the first person ever to score over 1000 points in the free rifle event. This was a huge achievement in the sport.
Amazing Achievements and Medals
Konrad Stäheli won many medals during his career. He earned 44 medals in individual events at the World Shooting Championships. If you count the team events, he won a total of 69 medals!
He won 38 gold, 17 silver, and 10 bronze medals at the World Championships. He also won 3 gold and 1 bronze medal at the Summer Olympics. It's important to know that the shooting events at the 1900 Summer Olympics were also counted as World Championship events. So, his total World Championship count is actually 41 gold, 17 silver, and 11 bronze medals.
