Koongamia is a suburb where many homes were built by the State Housing Commission. This was a government group that helped provide houses for people. It helped the area grow and become a home for many families.
How did Koongamia get its start?
Koongamia had a short but interesting connection to the Perth railway system. From 1960 to 1962, it was a stop on the train line. This stop was on a part of the old Mundaring Loop railway line. Even though the line wasn't officially closed, trains stopped running on it in 1954. For a few years, Koongamia had its own railway link, which was quite special!
