Kopiah was once a small town in Lewis County, Washington. Today, it's known as a ghost town, which means it's a place where most or all people have left, leaving behind empty buildings or just memories.

What Was Kopiah?

Kopiah was a small community located in the state of Washington. It was about 8 miles southeast of a larger town called Centralia.

When Did Kopiah Exist?

The town of Kopiah was officially established in 1906. For a while, it was a busy enough place to have its own post office. This post office helped people send and receive mail from 1906 until 1928.

Why Did Kopiah Become a Ghost Town?

Like many small towns, Kopiah saw its population change over time. In 1910, a census counted 298 people living there. However, by 1930, the number of residents had dropped significantly to only 115 people. When the post office closed in 1928, it was a sign that the town was shrinking. As people moved away, Kopiah slowly became a ghost town.
