Korey Banks' Football Journey
Playing in the NFL
In 2003, Korey Banks started his professional football career. He signed with the Miami Dolphins as a rookie. This team is part of the National Football League (NFL). He joined the team after the main draft.
He was released by the Dolphins in August 2003. Later, in November, he joined their practice squad. He was released again but then re-signed in December 2003. He played in the Dolphins' last two games that season.
Time with the Ottawa Renegades
In 2004, Korey Banks joined the Ottawa Renegades. This was a team in the CFL. Before that, he was on the practice team for the Edmonton Eskimos. He was part of a trade between the Eskimos and the Renegades.
In 2004, he played three games for Ottawa and made seven tackles. The next year, in the 2005 season, Korey had a fantastic year. He led the league with 10 interceptions. He also scored two touchdowns and made 44 tackles. He was recognized as a CFL All-Star that year.
Joining the BC Lions
After the 2005 season, the Ottawa Renegades team stopped playing. Korey Banks was then chosen by the BC Lions in a special draft. He was the 6th player picked overall.
In his first year with the Lions, Korey helped them win the 94th Grey Cup in 2006. He also scored a touchdown and made 7 interceptions. He was named a CFL All-Star multiple times. These years included 2006, 2009, 2011, and 2012. He was also a West Division All-Star from 2006 to 2011.
Playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers
In January 2014, Korey Banks was traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. This trade involved another player, Kito Poblah. In February 2014, the Bombers signed Korey to a contract extension.
However, Korey Banks was released by the Blue Bombers in June 2014. This happened after the team could not trade him to another team.
