Kortessem is a small town, also known as a municipality, located in Belgium. It is found in the Limburg province, close to the city of Hasselt. On January 1, 2006, Kortessem had a total population of 8,074 people. The town covers an area of 33.90 square kilometers. The Ancient Onzelievehereboom Oak

For a long time, Kortessem was home to a very old oak tree. It was known as the Onzelievehereboom. This tree was incredibly old, about 1200 years! Sadly, a powerful storm destroyed it in 2009.

Herman Van Rompuy: Honorary Citizen

Since May 16, 2014, Herman Van Rompuy has been an honorary citizen of Kortessem. Being an honorary citizen is a special title. It is given to people who have done great things for a town or country.
