Kristen Louise Kish, born on December 1, 1983, is a famous American chef and TV star. She is most known for winning the tenth season of the cooking show Top Chef. Later, she became the host of Top Chef, starting with its twenty-first season. Kristen has also hosted other popular shows like 36 Hours, Fast Foodies, Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend, and Restaurants at the End of the World.

Kristen Kish's Early Life and School

Kristen Kish was born in Seoul, South Korea. When she was four months old, a family in Kentwood, Michigan, adopted her. She went to East Kentwood High School and graduated in 2002. While in high school, she also worked as a model.

After high school, Kristen studied international business for a year at Grand Valley State University. But her true passion was cooking! She then went to Le Cordon Bleu in Chicago. There, she earned a special degree in Culinary Arts, which is all about cooking.

Kristen Kish's Cooking Journey

After finishing cooking school in 2005, Kristen Kish worked as a chef in Chicago for two years. Then, she moved to Boston. She gained experience working in different restaurants. She was a line cook at Top of the Hub and a chef at Guy Martin's Sensing restaurant.

In 2011, Kristen got a job as a sous-chef at Stir. This was a special kitchen where chefs showed how to cook. The owner, Barbara Lynch, saw Kristen's talent. In 2012, she promoted Kristen to chef de cuisine at Stir. After her time on Top Chef, Kristen worked at Barbara Lynch's restaurant, Menton, until 2014.

In 2017, Kristen wrote her first cookbook with Meredith Erickson. It was called Kristen Kish Cooking: Recipes and Techniques. In 2018, Kristen opened her own restaurant in Austin, Texas, called Arlo Grey. She is both the chef and a partner there. Her cooking style mixes modern French food with Italian flavors.

Kristen Kish on Television

In 2012, Kristen Kish joined the tenth season of Bravo's Top Chef. At first, she wasn't sure about being on TV. But her boss, Barbara Lynch, encouraged her to try. Kristen passed the first challenge by making a special soup for judge Emeril Lagasse.

During the competition, Kristen won four main challenges. She was eliminated in the "Restaurant Wars" challenge. But she didn't give up! She won five challenges in a row in "Last Chance Kitchen." This allowed her to return to the main competition. She made it to the finale with Brooke Williamson. In the end, Kristen defeated Brooke and became the Top Chef winner. She was the second woman to win the series.

In 2023, Kristen Kish was chosen as the new host of Top Chef. This happened after Padma Lakshmi decided to leave the show. Kristen has been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards for being an amazing host.

Other TV Shows

In 2015, Kristen co-hosted a show called 36 Hours on the Travel Channel. She traveled with Kyle Martino, a former soccer player. The show explored different cities for 36 hours, trying local food and drinks.

From 2021 to 2022, Kristen starred in Fast Foodies on TruTV. She was on the show with other chefs, Jeremy Ford and Justin Sutherland. In each episode, a celebrity would share their favorite fast food item. The chefs then had two rounds. First, they tried to copy the fast food dish exactly. Second, they created a fancy, new version of the dish.

In 2022, Kristen was a co-host on Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend. This was a new version of the Iron Chef show on Netflix. She gave comments with Alton Brown during the cooking battles. She also went down to the kitchen to check on the chefs.

In 2023, Kristen hosted the National Geographic series Restaurants at the End of the World. In this show, she visited restaurants in faraway places. She showed off the skills of local chefs, farmers, and fishers. In 2025, Kristen was a contestant on the fourth season of The Traitors.

In 2019, Kristen Kish announced her engagement to Bianca Dusic. They got married in 2021. In 2025, Kristen's book about her life, called Accidentally on Purpose, was published. It became a New York Times Best Seller.
