Kristina Lugn (born Gunhild Bricken Kristina Lugn; November 14, 1948 – May 9, 2020) was a famous Swedish writer. She was known for her poems and plays. Kristina Lugn was also a member of the Swedish Academy. This is a group that works to improve the Swedish language.

Kristina Lugn's Early Life
Kristina Lugn was born in a place called Tierp in Sweden. She grew up in Skövde. Her father, Robert Lugn, was a Major-General in the army. Her mother, Brita-Stina, was a teacher.
Kristina Lugn's Career as a Writer
Kristina Lugn started her writing career in 1972. She published her first book of poems, Om jag inte, that year. Over time, she wrote eight collections of poems.
Writing for the Stage
Besides poetry, Kristina Lugn also wrote many plays. She became the leader of a small theater in Stockholm called Teater Brunnsgatan Fyra in 1997. She took over after the actor Allan Edwall passed away.
Kristina Lugn was the artistic director for this theater until 2011. Many of her own plays were performed there. Her plays often talked about feelings like loneliness and big life changes. She used humor and irony to explore these topics.
After 2011, her daughter, Martina Montelius, took over the theater. Some of Kristina Lugn's plays were also shown at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. These included Tant Blomma and Idlaflickorna.

Kristina Lugn also appeared on television. In 1987, she hosted a TV show called Oförutsett on SVT. She hosted it with Jörn Donner and Bert Karlsson.
In 2002, she had her own live talk show at Teater Brunnsgatan. It was called Seg kväll med Lugn. She invited guests to talk with her.
Kristina Lugn also wrote a novel with author Henning Mankell. The book was called Tjuvbadarna.
Awards and Honors for Kristina Lugn
Kristina Lugn received many important awards for her writing. On December 20, 2006, she was chosen to join the Swedish Academy. This is a very special honor for writers in Sweden. She took the place of Lars Gyllensten in Seat No. 14.

Music Inspired by Kristina Lugn's Work
Kristina Lugn's poems have also inspired music. Many Swedish composers have set her poems to music. These include Gabriel Wilczkowski and Sven-David Sandström.
A new song based on her work was performed at a royal wedding. This happened during the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling in 2010. The song was called "Vilar glad. I din famn."

Kristina Lugn passed away on May 9, 2020. She was found at her home.
