Kristy Hawkins: A Bodybuilding Journey
Amateur Bodybuilding Beginnings
Kristy Hawkins shared that she was quite heavy when she was younger. She took dance lessons and was a twirler, but she felt she wasn't active enough. She also mentioned struggling with eating habits, which led her to starve herself at one point. To help with this, she started going to the gym to burn calories.
She began with cardio exercises, then moved on to weight training. By age 15, she had her own gym membership. She went every day after school and work. The gym owners helped her learn about training, nutrition, and posing for competitions. When she was 17, Kristy competed in her first show in Mississippi. She placed 3rd in her class. She also placed in the top four twice at the NPC Nationals. In November 2007, she won the light-heavyweight and overall titles at the NPC Nationals. This win earned her an IFBB pro card, allowing her to compete professionally.
Professional Bodybuilding Career
After becoming a professional bodybuilder, Kristy competed in her first pro show in 2008. This was the Ms. International, where she placed 14th. In 2009, she competed in her first Ms. Olympia, placing 7th.
When training for bodybuilding, Kristy ate about 2,500–3,000 calories daily. Her weight during competitions was around 140 pounds. When she was not competing, her weight was about 165 pounds. She focused more on how she looked rather than tracking her body fat numbers.
