Kruibeke is a town in Belgium. It is located in the East Flanders province. In 2018, Kruibeke had about 16,657 people living there. The total area of the town is about 33.42 square kilometers.
Kruibeke includes the smaller towns of Bazel, Kruibeke itself, and Rupelmonde.

History of Kruibeke
One of the oldest and most important places in the area is the Wissekerke Castle in Bazel. This castle was home to the old Vilain family for many years. They lived there until 1989.
A Special Department of Tenderness
In March 2003, the mayor of Kruibeke, Antoine Denert, created something very unique. He started a "Department of Tenderness." His goal was to encourage people in the town to be kinder to each other.
Mayor Denert believed that people were not showing enough affection. He thought this was causing many arguments. He announced that he would lead by example. He planned to show kindness and affection to as many people as possible in his town. He even added "Tenderness" to his official duties as mayor. This idea was very unusual. As of August 2004, no other towns had copied this special department.
Mayors of Kruibeke
Kruibeke has had several mayors over the years.
Jos Stassen's Time as Mayor
From 2013 to 2018, Jos Stassen was the mayor. He led a group of political parties. These parties included SamenVoorKruibeke (which was made up of Vooruit, Groen, and Open VLD) and CD&V. Together, they formed a majority. This meant they had more votes than the largest party, N-VA, which was led by former mayor Antoine Denert.
Dimitri van Laere and Antoine Denert
Dimitri van Laere became mayor in 2018. He formed a new group with N-VA, CD&V, and some independent politicians. These independents had been part of Antoine Denert's old party, D.E.N.E.R.T.
In 2022, Antoine Denert returned as mayor. This happened as Kruibeke began plans to join with two nearby towns. These towns are Beveren and Zwijndrecht. The joining of these towns was completed by early 2025.
