Kruibeke (pronounced like KROY-bee-kuh) is a town in Belgium. It is a municipality, which means it's like a local government area. Kruibeke is located in the East Flanders province of Belgium.
This municipality includes three main towns: Bazel, Kruibeke itself, and Rupelmonde. As of January 1, 2018, about 16,657 people lived in Kruibeke. The total area of the municipality is about 33.42 square kilometers.
One of the oldest and most important places in the area is the Wissekerke Castle in Bazel. This castle was home to the old Vilain family until 1989.

Kruibeke has had several interesting mayors over the years. A mayor is the leader of a town or city's local government.
The Department of Tenderness
In March 2003, the mayor at that time, Antoine Denert, created something special. He set up a "Department of Tenderness." This department was made to encourage people in Kruibeke to be kinder to each other.
Mayor Denert believed that people were not showing enough affection. He thought this was causing many conflicts. He even said he would lead by example. He planned to show affection to as many people as possible in his town. He officially added "Tenderness" to his list of duties as mayor. These duties also included work, environment, and budget.
Recent Mayors and Coalitions
From 2013 to 2018, Jos Stassen was the mayor of Kruibeke. He led a group of political parties called a coalition. A coalition is when different parties work together to form a majority. This means they have more votes than other parties. His coalition included parties like SamenVoorKruibeke and CD&V. They worked together to have more power than the largest party, N-VA. The N-VA party was led by former mayor Antoine Denert.
From 2018 to 2022, Dimitri van Laere became the mayor. He also formed a coalition. His group included N-VA, CD&V, and some independent politicians. These independents used to be part of Antoine Denert's old party, D.E.N.E.R.T.
In 2022, Antoine Denert returned as mayor. This happened as the town started planning to join with two nearby towns. These towns are Beveren and Zwijndrecht. This joining is expected to happen by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
