Kuckles was an Australian band that started in 1981. The band's name, "Kuckles," means "cockles" in the Broome Kriol language. The group was formed by students from Broome, Western Australia. They were studying music in Adelaide.

Their music began with an acoustic calypso sound. Later, it changed to an electric reggae and rock style.

The band recorded a special tape called Milliya Rumarra. This tape helped them win a trip to Germany. They went to the Third Annual International Cologne Song Festival in 1982. Kuckles returned to Broome later that year and then stopped playing together.

Music and Musicals

Kuckles helped create music for two famous musicals. These musicals were Bran Nue Dae and Corrugation Road. Both were written by Jimmy Chi, who was also a member of Kuckles.

After Kuckles disbanded, some members joined other bands. Jimmy Chi and Mick Manolis formed a new band called Bingurr. This name means "moonlight" in the Bardi language. Stephen Pigram played with bands like Scrap Metal and The Pigram Brothers.
