The Pigram Brothers are a seven-member band from Broome, Australia. They are an Indigenous Australian group. The band started in 1996. Broome is a town famous for pearl hunting.
The brothers were very involved in music and theater in Broome. They were the first band for Jimmy Chi's musical Bran Nue Dae in 1990. This show became famous around the world.
The Pigram Brothers grew up with a lot of music around them. Broome has a very rich musical culture. Before forming The Pigram Brothers, Alan, Steven, and Phillip were part of a band called Scrap Metal. They played together from 1983 until 1995.
In 2000, a one-hour TV show called Saltwater Country was made about them. It was part of ABC Television's Message Stick series.
In 2006, Steven and Alan Pigram were honored. They were added to the Western Australian Music Hall of Fame. This is a special award for important musicians.
In 2011, Alan and Steven Pigram started touring with singer Alex Lloyd. They formed the Mad Bastards Trio. They performed songs from the 2011 movie Mad Bastards. Their music for the movie was nominated for an ARIA Award for Best Original Soundtrack, Cast or Show Album at the 2011 ARIA Awards.
