Kumbanad is a small town in the state of Kerala, India. It's located in the Pathanamthitta district, within the Thiruvalla taluk. This town is part of the Koipuram Town Panchayath, right next to Pullad.
Kumbanad is an important spot along T.K. Road. It's about 3 kilometers away from both Eraviperoor and Pullad, making it easy to reach.
How Kumbanad's Economy Works
The main way people in Kumbanad earn money is through "remittances." This means money sent home by people who live and work in other countries. These people are often called Non-Resident Indians, or NRIs.
Money from Abroad
Because so many people from Kumbanad work overseas, a lot of money comes into the town. This is why you'll see many ATMs and banks in the area. In fact, back in 2009, the banks in the Kumbanad-Thiruvalla area held about ₹5,400 Crore in deposits!
Local Businesses and Services
Many local shops and services in Kumbanad depend on this money from abroad. Since many young and middle-aged people move away for work, a lot of the people living in Kumbanad are older. So, there are also services and healthcare centers that help meet their needs.
In 2023, the BBC even talked about Kumbanad. They looked at both the good things and the challenges that come from so many people moving away from Kerala.
