Kuwait is a country in the Middle East. It has sent athletes to the Summer Olympics 12 times. So far, Kuwait has won three bronze Olympic medals.
Kuwait won a bronze medal in taekwondo at the 1992 Barcelona Games. Taekwondo was a "demonstration sport" back then. This means it was shown at the Olympics but didn't count for official medals.
Kuwait's first official Olympic medal was a bronze. It was won by Fehaid Al-Deehani in double trap shooting at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Al-Deehani won another bronze medal in men's trap shooting at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
The National Olympic Committee for Kuwait was created in 1957. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially recognized it in 1966. However, the Kuwait Olympic Committee has been suspended twice in the past ten years. This means they were not allowed to represent Kuwait at the Olympics.
Because of a suspension, Kuwait could not compete as a country at the 2016 Summer Olympics. But the athletes from Kuwait were still allowed to compete. They competed as "Independent Olympic Athletes" under the Olympic flag. At those games, Kuwaiti shooters Fehaid Al-Deehani and Abdullah Al-Rashidi won medals. Al-Deehani won a gold medal, and Al-Rashidi won a bronze medal. They won these medals as independent athletes.

Kuwait's Olympic Journey
Kuwait first joined the Summer Olympics in 1968. Since then, they have sent athletes to almost every Summer Games.
When Kuwait Competed
For most Olympic Games, Kuwait has competed under its own flag. This means their athletes represented Kuwait directly.
However, in 2016, things were different. The Kuwait Olympic Committee was suspended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This was because of problems with how sports were managed in Kuwait. Because of this suspension, Kuwaiti athletes could not compete as "Team Kuwait." Instead, they competed as "Independent Olympic Athletes." They marched under the Olympic flag, not Kuwait's flag.
After the 2016 Games, the suspension was lifted. Kuwait was able to compete as its own country again at the 2020 Summer Olympics and beyond.
