Kwame Awuah is a Canadian professional soccer player. He was born on December 2, 1995. He plays for Loudoun United FC in the USL Championship league. Kwame is a versatile player, meaning he can play in different positions on the field, like a midfielder or a left-back defender.

Kwame's Soccer Journey

Starting Out in Soccer

Kwame Awuah began his soccer journey playing for several youth clubs. These included Club Uruguay Toronto and Woodbridge Strikers. He also played for the Ontario Soccer Association provincial team.

While attending Dante Alighieri Academy, he was a star player on the varsity boys soccer team. He was even chosen as the Most Valuable Player (MVP). In 2013, he finished his training at the Sigma FC Academy program.

College Soccer at UConn

After his youth career, Awuah played college soccer for the UConn Huskies. He showed his skills by playing in different positions. He played as a left-back, a central midfielder, and even a left winger.

During his time at UConn, Kwame received many awards. He was selected multiple times for the American Athletic Conference First Team. This shows how talented he was in college.

Playing for Sigma FC

In 2014, Kwame Awuah joined his former youth club, Sigma FC. The club had just become part of League1 Ontario. Here, he played alongside future soccer stars like Cyle Larin and Richie Laryea.

In 2016, Awuah played in six games for Sigma FC. His excellent performance earned him a spot on the League1 Ontario Western Conference All-Star Team.

Time with New York City FC

Kwame Awuah's talent was noticed by Major League Soccer (MLS) teams. In 2017, he was invited to the MLS Combine, where young players show off their skills. He was then chosen in the first round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by New York City FC. He was the sixteenth player picked overall.

He officially signed with the team on March 10, 2017. Kwame made his first appearance for New York City FC on May 7, 2017. This was in a winning game against Atlanta United FC. After the 2017 season, New York City FC decided to keep him for the 2018 season. However, after two seasons, Awuah left the team at the end of 2018.

Becoming a Champion with Forge FC

On January 29, 2019, Awuah signed with Forge FC, a club in the Canadian Premier League. This move reunited him with his former coach, Bobby Smyrniotis. The 2019 season was very successful for Forge FC. They finished second in both the spring and fall seasons. This allowed them to play in the 2019 Canadian Premier League Finals.

In the finals, Forge FC played against Cavalry FC. Forge won both games 1-0, making the total score 2-0. This victory made them the first-ever Canadian Premier League champions! Kwame Awuah was a key player, providing five assists during the season. This tied him for the most assists in the league.

He scored his first goal for Forge FC on August 16, 2020, against FC Edmonton. The year 2020 was another great one for Forge. They became CPL champions for the second time in a row.

Kwame Awuah continued to play an important role in Forge's 2021 season. He was praised for his excellent passing and strong defensive skills. However, Forge FC just missed winning their third championship. They lost in the final game to Pacific FC.

Moving to St. Louis City SC 2

In January 2022, Awuah tried out for the Major League Soccer club Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He did not sign with them. Instead, he joined St. Louis City SC 2. This team was part of the new MLS Next Pro league, and it was their first season.

Playing for Canada

Kwame Awuah has also represented his country. In March 2017, he was called up to the Canada U23s. This was for some friendly games. The new national team manager, Octavio Zambrano, then called him up to the senior team. This was for a training camp and to be part of the provisional squad for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
