Kym Mazelle (born Kymberly Grigsby; August 10, 1960) is an American singer. She is known for her important role in bringing house music to the United Kingdom and Europe. Her music mixes different styles. These include R&B, soul, funk, house music, dance, and pop. People often call her "The First Lady of House Music".

Biography
Early life and education
Kym Mazelle was born in Gary, Indiana. She grew up on the same street as the famous Jackson family. She even knew Michael Jackson's mother and uncle.
In 1981, Kym started college at Mundelein College in Chicago. The next year, in 1982, she moved to Columbia College Chicago. She studied there and earned her degree in Arts and Entertainment Media Management in 1986. While in college, she also worked part-time. She was an intern and secretary at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Music career highlights
Kym Mazelle began her music career in 1987. She worked with producer Marshall Jefferson on a song called "Taste My Love." It was released under the name House To House. In 1988, she released her own song, "Useless (I Don't Need You Now)." This song became popular in clubs and reached number 53 in the UK charts.
Her next song, "Wait," was a duet with Robert Howard. He was from the band The Blow Monkeys. This song was a big hit in 1989, reaching number 7 in the UK. Kym's first album, Crazy, came out in the UK in 1989. It included the song "Love Strain." Later, "Was That All It Was" put Kym back in the UK Top 40. "Useless (I Don't Need You Now)" was also remixed by Norman Cook.
In 1990, Kym joined the British music group Soul II Soul. She sang the lead vocals on their song "Missing You." This song was on their second album, Vol. II: 1990 – A New Decade. It became a huge success all over the world. Kym also toured with the group that year. Their concert DVD, A New Decade: Live from Brixton Academy, was released in September 1990.
In 1991, Kym's first album was re-released as Brilliant!!. It had new remixes of her songs and two new tracks. Kym also acted as "Pattie Roman" in the TV show Trainer. In 1992, Kym had another hit with Rapination (also known as the Rapino Brothers). Their song "Love Me the Right Way" was a popular club hit in the UK.
In 1994, Kym had a big hit with Jocelyn Brown. They covered the song "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)". It reached number 13 in the UK. Two years later, in 1996, Kym released her own version of "Young Hearts Run Free". This song was featured in the 1996 Baz Luhrmann movie William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet. The movie's soundtrack became very popular in the United States. Because of this success, Kym was invited to perform on the TV show Top of the Pops again.
Kym has also appeared on live albums by Maceo Parker. These include Life on Planet Groove and My First Name is Maceo. Kym released her second album, The Pleasure Is All Mine, in June 2004. She then went on a tour in the UK. This album had two singles: "Love Magic" and "On My Own."
In 2005, Kym took part in the British TV show Celebrity Fit Club. In April 2007, she performed in a tribute show for Ray Charles called "I Can't Stop Loving You."
In July 2010, Kym joined the cast of the UK theater show Smokey Joe's Cafe. She also appeared on the BBC Television series Celebrity MasterChef. In September 2010, she released a short album called Destiny.
Kym performed at Liverpool Pride on August 6, 2011. On November 3, 2011, she was the main performer at Prince Charles's Prince's Trust Ambassador Ball in Glasgow. She helped raise £93,000 for the charity that night. On April 6, 2013, Kym appeared on The Voice UK on the BBC. In 2017, Kym Mazelle started her 30th Anniversary Tour. This celebrated her thirty years in the music industry.
