Kyung I. Lah (Korean: 나경; born August 27, 1971) is a journalist from South Korea. She works as a correspondent for CNN in the United States.
Early Life and Education
Kyung Lah was born in Seoul, South Korea. She grew up in Streamwood, Illinois, in the United States.
In 1989, she finished high school at Hoffman Estates High School in Illinois. She then went to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 1993, she earned a degree in broadcast journalism. While in college, she also wrote for the school's newspaper, the Daily Illini.
Her Career as a Journalist
Kyung Lah started her career in 1993 at WBBM-TV in Chicago. She worked as a desk assistant and a field producer.
In 1994, she became an on-air reporter for WWMT-TV in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The next year, in 1995, she moved to San Diego to work as a reporter for KGTV-TV.
In January 2000, she returned to WBBM-TV in Chicago as an on-air reporter.
In early 2003, Lah moved to Los Angeles to work at KNBC-TV. There, she was a morning reporter and also anchored the midday news.
Later, in late 2005, Lah joined CNN Newsource. She worked as a correspondent based in Washington, D.C.
In November 2007, Kyung Lah became CNN's correspondent in Tokyo, Japan. She always had a Japanese interpreter with her. On June 27, 2012, she left her job in Japan. She moved to a new position at the CNN office in Los Angeles.
While in Japan, Lah wrote many stories about Japanese culture. She focused on unique topics, like men who had "married" animated characters.
About Her Personal Life
Kyung Lah has said that she feels very connected to her South Korean background. In an interview in 2006, she shared that she often thinks about what it means to be Korean.
