Exploring L'Énova's History

L'Énova is a place with a long and interesting past. You can find amazing remains from ancient Roman times here. These discoveries help us learn about how people lived thousands of years ago.

The Roman Villa

One of the most exciting finds is a Roman villa. This large house dates back to the 2nd century. It belonged to a rich Roman nobleman named Publius Cornelius Iunianus. The villa covered an area of about 2,600 square meters.

Archaeologists have dug up many cool things here. They found beautiful mosaic floors. There were also private baths and a small temple with a sculpture. Other finds include old coins, glass, and lots of pottery. These items show us what life was like for a wealthy Roman family. The villa had a courtyard with arches and fancy rooms. Some rooms even had marble walls and terracotta floors.

The Roman Quarry

About 500 meters from the Roman villa, there is an ancient quarry. This quarry also dates from the 1st and 2nd centuries. It is located in an area called “La Partida dels Francs.”

The quarry was used to dig out marble. Workers used different tools to get the marble from the ground. Inside a small chapel at the site, a unique discovery was made. They found an iron wedge about 20 centimeters long. This is the only one of its kind found in Spain. Pieces of pottery and marks from carts on the stone were also found here.
