The LMS diesel shunter 7058 was a special type of locomotive that ran on diesel-electric power. It was built in February 1934 by a company called Armstrong Whitworth. This shunter was based on an earlier design from 1932 that the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) had tested. It was first called 7408, but then its number was changed to 7058.
A shunter is a small, powerful locomotive used to move train cars around in railway yards or at stations. They help put trains together or move them to different tracks.

A Special Job During Wartime
Between 1941 and 1943, during World War II, the LMS 7058 was loaned to the War Department. It was used at the Longmoor Military Railway, which was a special railway for military training. Even though it helped the military for a long time, it never got a special number from the War Department.
Life After the War
After World War II, in January 1948, the British railway system was taken over by the government. This meant that the LMS 7058 became part of the new British Railways. British Railways planned to give it the number 13000. However, the shunter was taken out of service in November 1949 and was soon scrapped. This happened before it could even get its new number. The number 13000 was then given to the very first of the Class 08 shunters, which became a very common type of locomotive.
