The LPGA Corning Classic was a big golf tournament for professional women golfers. It was part of the LPGA Tour, which is like the major league for women's golf. This tournament happened every year from 1979 until 2009. It was always held at the Corning Country Club in Corning, New York.
This golf event was one of the longest-running tournaments on the LPGA Tour. It was also special because it had the same main sponsor for its entire history. The company that sponsored it from the start was Corning Incorporated. This company makes things like glass and ceramics.
The people of Corning worked hard to make the tournament happen. It was a huge community effort. Like many LPGA Tour events, the money raised went to help charities. The Corning Classic helped local hospitals and camps for children with disabilities. Since 1979, the tournament raised over $5 million for good causes.
On April 20, 2009, Corning Incorporated said they could no longer sponsor the tournament. The people running the event tried to find new sponsors, but they couldn't. So, the tournament ended after the 2009 event.
