LaKeith Lee Stanfield was born in San Bernardino, California, on August 12, 1991. He grew up in Riverside and Victorville. His mother's name is Karen. LaKeith decided he wanted to be an actor when he was 14 years old. He joined his high school's drama club.
After high school, he went to the John Casablancas Modeling and Career Center in Los Angeles. There, an agency signed him, and he started trying out for commercials.
