La Calera is a lively town and municipality in Colombia. It is located in the Cundinamarca area, specifically in the Guavio Province.
This town is a popular spot for weekend trips. Many people visit La Calera for its great restaurants. It's only about 18 kilometers (11 miles) from Bogotá, which is the capital city of Colombia. La Calera sits high up in the Eastern Ranges of the Colombian Andes mountains. It's east of Bogotá and offers views of parts of the city. La Calera shares its borders with several other towns. To the north, it borders Guasca, Sopó, and Chía. To the east, it borders Guasca and Junín. To the west, it borders Bogotá, and to the south, it borders Choachí and Fómeque.

La Calera's Story
Long ago, before the Spanish arrived, the area where La Calera is now was home to the Muisca. These native people lived in the region. La Calera was part of the lands ruled by a Muisca leader called the zipa. This leader was based in the southern capital city of Bacatá (which is now Bogotá).
The modern town of La Calera was officially started on December 16, 1772. It was founded by a person named Pedro de Tovar y Buendía.
