Discovering La Celia's Past
How La Celia Began
The story of La Celia began in 1893. Two people, Manuel Marín and Martín Ortiz, started the process of settling this area. They worked hard, and thanks to the efforts of many people, a small settlement called Barcelona grew.
From Hamlet to Municipality
By 1915, this small settlement became what we know today as La Celia. For a long time, La Celia was just a "district" of the nearby Santuario municipality. This means it was part of Santuario's local government. However, on November 30, 1959, La Celia was officially declared its own municipality. This was a big step, giving it its own local government and independence.
La Celia's Weather: What to Expect
La Celia has a subtropical highland climate. This type of climate means it's usually mild, not too hot and not too cold, throughout the year. The average temperature in La Celia is around 18 degrees Celsius (64 degrees Fahrenheit). This pleasant weather helps with the region's farming.
Local Government: Who Leads La Celia?
The Mayor's Role
Like many towns, La Celia has a local government that helps run things. The main leader of the municipality is called the Mayor. The mayor is chosen by the people and works to improve the town and its services.
Current Leadership
From 2024 to 2027, the mayor of La Celia is Carlos Uriel Isaza Gallego. The mayor and their team are responsible for things like local services, planning, and making sure the community's needs are met.
What La Celia is Known For
Farming and Livestock
