Community center, La Cumbre.

La Cumbre is a charming small town in Argentina. It's located in the Córdoba Province, nestled in a beautiful area called the "Valle de Punilla." About 7,800 people live here.

A Look Back: How La Cumbre Began

La Cumbre started as a group of farms. It began to grow into a town when the railway was built in the 1890s. The town was named "La Cumbre," which means "The Summit," because it was the highest point on the railway line.

Many British railway engineers helped build the railway. They were among the first of many Anglo-Argentines who came to live in La Cumbre. Their presence has shaped the town's culture even today. Sadly, the railway no longer runs. The old railway station is now a community center. It has a small museum and a place where tourists can get information.

British Influence and Architecture

In the 1920s, many British families built their holiday homes in La Cumbre. This gave the town a special English architectural style. In 1924, the Golf Club was started. It is still one of La Cumbre's most famous features.

For many years, there were several English-speaking boarding schools nearby. St. Mary's, a girls' school next to the Golf course, is now a home for older people. Another girls' school, Reydon, is about 3 kilometers north in a place called Cruz Chica. Reydon was originally a hotel built by immigrants from England. Today, it is a hotel. A bit further away is St. Paul's, the largest school in the town. It has about 340 students and offers both English and Spanish classes. St. Paul's now accepts both boys and girls, but students no longer live there.

La Cumbre Today: Fun and Activities

La Cumbre has a smaller population for most of the year. However, during the summer holidays, especially in January and February, it gets very busy. Many tourists visit to enjoy the town's outdoor activities.

You can try exciting sports like paragliding or go horse riding. There's also fishing, hiking, and river swimming. Of course, you can play golf at the famous club. La Cumbre is also a part of the Argentine Rally stage for the World Rally Championship. This is a big car racing event! The town also has a statue of Christ the Redeemer. It was made by an Italian-Argentine artist named Luis Ramacciotti.
