La Estrella is a Chilean town and commune. It is located in the Cardenal Caro Province of the O'Higgins Region.

People of La Estrella

In 2002, a special count of people, called a census, showed that 4,221 people lived in La Estrella. The town covers an area of about 435 square kilometers.

More men lived in La Estrella than women at that time. There were 2,766 men and 1,455 women. Most people, about 2,841 (67.3%), lived in rural areas, which are like the countryside. Fewer people, about 1,380 (32.7%), lived in urban areas, which are more like cities or towns.

Between 1992 and 2002, the number of people living in La Estrella grew quite a lot. The population increased by 51.9%, which means 1,442 more people came to live there.

How La Estrella is Governed

La Estrella is a commune, which is a type of local government area in Chile. It is managed by a group called a municipal council.

The leader of the commune is called an alcaldesa (mayor). This person is chosen by the people in an election every four years. The current alcalde for the years 2021 to 2024 is Angélica Silva Arrué.
