La Fontaine is a small town in Liberty Township, Wabash County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. In 2020, about 798 people lived there. The town's name, "La Fontaine," comes from the French language. It means "The Fountain."

History of La Fontaine
The town of La Fontaine was named after a special person. This was Francis La Fontaine, a chief of the Miami Indian tribe. Old maps show that the town was first called Ashland.
The La Fontaine post office has been open since 1848. This means people have been sending and receiving mail there for a very long time.
In 2014, the LaFontaine Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes important places in American history.
