La Fuga is a Spanish rock band from Reinosa, Cantabria, Spain. They started playing music together in the summer of 1996. The band is currently made up of Xavi Moreno (who sings and plays guitar), Nando (guitar), Raúl (bass), and Edu (drums). They have performed over 600 concerts on ten tours and have released many albums.

How La Fuga Started

The band began playing in 1997. In September, the first members — Edu (drums), Rulo (singer and guitarist), Fito (guitar and backing vocals), and Iñaki (bass) — started performing their first shows. They played in their hometown of Reinosa and other places in Cantabria and Palencia.

Their First Album: Mira

After their first demo song was very popular, La Fuga started playing more concerts in different cities, even in Madrid. More and more fans came to their shows and wanted to hear their own songs. So, the band decided to record their first studio album, called Mira, which came out in 1998.

To help pay for the recording, they played two concerts in Reinosa, which helped them get the money they needed. They recorded the album in Navarra at Sonido XXI studios. Half of the album's costs were paid by the band members, and the other half by an independent record company from Santander called FAK Records.

During this time, Fito had to leave the band for personal reasons. Nando then joined as a guitarist. With Nando, La Fuga went on their first tour, playing over 80 concerts across Spain.

Un juguete por navidad

In 1998, Fito joined the band again as a guest for a special concert. This concert was held to raise money for a good cause and filled the Teatro Municipal of Reinosa. The band played their own songs and covers of other rock bands. This performance was recorded for an album called Un juguete por Navidad, which was a special limited edition with only 1000 copies.

After this concert, Fito officially rejoined the band. The band's lineup changed a bit: Nando stayed on guitar, Edu on drums, Rulo sang, and Fito played guitar and sang. Iñaki, the bassist, later left the group. Rulo then took over playing the bass, in addition to singing and playing the harmonica.

A golpes... de rock and roll

In 2000, La Fuga decided to record their second studio album, A golpes de Rock and Roll, by themselves. They recorded it in March and April at Sonido XXI studios. The album was released in June, and they started a successful tour.

During this tour, the owners of the studio, the San Martín brothers, asked La Fuga to sign a contract with their record company, EDG Music. The band agreed because it would help their music reach more people.

A las doce

In 2001, after writing new songs, the band returned to Navarra to record A las doce. They recorded this album in just two weeks, using better equipment than before.

The tour for this album was bigger than previous ones, with about 60 concerts. They played at major national festivals like ViñaRock and Derrame Rock, where they gained many new fans.

The singer Aurora Beltrán also sang on the song "Balada del despertador." La Fuga also filmed their first music videos for the songs "Pa volar" and "Conversación, habitación."

Calles de papel

Other big record companies started calling La Fuga. EDG Music, their current label, allowed them to sign with a larger company called Dro-Atlantic.

Their album Calles de papel was released in May 2003. It included a video with clips from their 2002 tour. This album showed how much the band had grown. They also filmed a video for the song "En vela" in Madrid. The album sold very well and quickly appeared on the Spanish music charts.

Famous musicians also joined them on this album: Fito Cabrales sang on "Sueños de papel," and Kutxi Romero sang on "Los lunes de octubre."

The Calles de Papel Tour was their biggest yet, with 82 concerts across Spain. They finished the tour at Las Ventas in Madrid, playing with Fito & Fitipaldis, to a huge crowd.

In 2003, La Fuga also contributed to a tribute album for the band Barricada, performing their version of "Pasión por el ruido." In 2004, they appeared on another tribute album, this time for Radio Futura, with their version of "37 grados."

Negociando gasolina

In April 2005, La Fuga released Negociando gasolina. They became even more popular with their first single from the album, "Buscando en la Basura."

On this album, El Drogas from the band Barricada sang on "Baja por diversión." Laura, from a band in Cantabria, sang backing vocals on "Amor de contenedor."

The tour for this album started a month after the album came out and took them all over Spain.

La Fuga en directo

After the Negociando Gasolina tour, the band decided to record a live album at the Aqualung auditorium in Madrid. They recorded audio and video during two concerts on December 9 and 10, 2005. This became the DVD La Fuga en directo, which was released in 2006. A new tour followed this release.

Nubes y claros

The band decided to try something new with their older songs by creating an acoustic album called Nubes y Claros, released in 2006. They added new instruments like violins, flutes, and accordions. Nando described the album as "something strange." They also made different versions of their old songs and covered "Donde habita el olvido" by Joaquín Sabina.

They announced a special acoustic mini-tour, using all the new instruments and unique stage setups for the different theaters they played in.

The album also included a special DVD with videos and behind-the-scenes footage.

For the first time, La Fuga toured outside of Spain. In May and September 2007, they visited Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile. They were very well received and played with the Uruguayan band La Chancha and the Argentinean band Bulldog.

Asuntos pendientes

After three years without a new studio album, La Fuga announced Asuntos Pendientes. This album had a bigger production than any before, and the band even appeared on the cover of a major magazine, HeavyRock.

Some songs on the album were written during their South American tour. The lyrics show how surprised the band was by the way some people lived in those countries.

The first single, "No sólo respirar," was their fastest song and had a different rhythm compared to their other music. The music video was filmed in the same place as "Polvo en los ojos" by Soziedad Alkohólika.

During the tour for this album, they played at ViñaRock again and also at the Mediatic Festival.

Band Member Changes

On October 27, 2009, La Fuga announced that Rulo, their bassist and singer, was leaving the band. However, the group decided to continue making music.

Later, in June 2010, Fito also left La Fuga to play with Rulo.

This led to the creation of two separate bands:

  • Rulo and Fito formed a new band called Rulo y la contrabanda, led by Raúl (Rulo).
  • La Fuga continued with new members. In 2010, they introduced Pedro (from the band Mr. Fylyn) as their new singer and Raúl Serrano as their new bassist. They released a new studio album called Raíces on March 8, 2011.

Raíces

After the band split and new members joined, La Fuga released their album Raíces. The new lineup for this album was Pedro, Nando, Edu, and Raúl.
