La Laguna (also known as Tajuya de abajo or La Laguna de Tajuya) is a town and neighborhood. It is located in Los Llanos de Aridane, on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, Spain. This town was greatly affected by a lava flow from the 2021 Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption. Sadly, this event destroyed hundreds of homes in the area.

History of La Laguna
The town of La Laguna has a long history. It was also known by other names, like "Tajuya de abajo" or "La Laguna de Tajuya." Records show that people have lived here since at least the 1600s.
About the Town
The main part of La Laguna is known for a spot called "Venta de Doña Rosario." This place got its name from a small pond that used to form there when it rained. La Laguna does not have many very old buildings. Instead, it is famous for its farming.
Farming in La Laguna
Over the years, the types of crops grown here have changed. Farmers first grew sugarcane, then tomatoes. More recently, they have focused on bananas and avocados. Many local families own small plots of land where they grow these crops.
San Isidro Church
La Laguna has a church dedicated to San Isidro. Building the church started in June 1966. It was paid for by donations from local people. Women in the community gave a lot of money to help build it.

La Laguna has had a school since 1875, showing its long commitment to education. In 1932, the Velia Cultural Society was started here. This group helps to promote culture and learning in the town.
The 2021 Volcanic Eruption
La Laguna was severely impacted by the 2021 Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption. This was a major natural disaster for the town.
Lava Flow Impact
On October 14, 2021, lava from the volcano reached La Laguna. The town's football field was covered by lava. A nearby supermarket and many other buildings were also destroyed.
Evacuation Efforts
Before the lava arrived, parts of the town were evacuated. This means people had to leave their homes for safety. Soon after, the entire town was completely evacuated. This helped keep people safe from the moving lava.
Destruction of Buildings
After the evacuation, the lava continued to flow. A gas station, the local school, and hundreds of houses in La Laguna were destroyed. The eruption changed the landscape of the town forever.
