Where is La Sola Island?
La Sola Island is quite far from the mainland. It's about 370 kilometers (230 miles) northeast of Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela. It's also about 20 kilometers (12 miles) northeast of Islas Los Frailes and about 55 kilometers (34 miles) southeast of Islas Los Testigos.
This small island is uninhabited, meaning no one lives there. It's only about 500 square meters in size, which is smaller than a basketball court! The highest point on the island is just 8.5 meters (28 feet) above sea level.
History of La Sola Island
In 1938, La Sola Island became part of the Dependencias Federales. This meant it was managed by the Ministerio del Interior y de Justicia (Ministry of Interior and Justice), which is a government department in charge of internal affairs and justice.
Later, on August 9, 1972, La Sola Island and the other islands in the Dependencias Federales were declared a national park. This was done to protect their natural environment. The park was officially created on August 18 of the same year.
