La Tène facts for kids
La Tène is a municipality of the district of Neuchâtel in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. As of 31 December 2020, it has a population of 5,176 people.
The La Tène municipality is notable as the eponymous site of the Iron Age archaeological La Tène culture.
Geography
It lies about 6 km east of the city of Neuchâtel at the northeastern tip of Lake Neuchâtel close to Biel/Bienne, at the boundary between French- and German-speaking regions, and at a knot of highways.
History
It was created on 1 January 2009, when the former municipalities of Marin-Epagnier and Thielle-Wavre merged to form the new municipality of La Tène.
