Lac Grand is a beautiful lake located in the Outaouais area of Quebec, Canada. It's quite large, covering about 377 hectares (that's like 377 football fields!). The lake sits about 160 meters (or 525 feet) above sea level.

Even though there are no big towns right on the lake, many people have cottages there. Some families even live there all year round! The lake is a popular spot for fun activities. People love to go waterskiing, sailing, fishing, and swimming in its clear waters.

About Lac Grand

Lac Grand is a glacial lake, which means it was formed by huge glaciers long ago. In winter, the lake freezes over, creating a beautiful snowy landscape. It's a great place to enjoy nature and outdoor activities.

Geography of the Lake

Lac Grand has a unique shape with four main bays. Two bays are in the southern part of the lake, and two are in the northern part. The deepest part of the lake is in its main section. Here, the water goes down about 40 meters (131 feet) deep! That's even deeper than some much larger lakes, like Lake Winnipeg.

Islands and Water Flow

There are many islands scattered across Lac Grand. The biggest one is called Ile-Des-Peres, which is found in Priest's Bay.

Water flows into Lac Grand from two main sources. One is a stream with a waterfall coming from Lac McArthur. The other is a narrow channel of water from Lac Vert. Lac Grand's only outflow is into Lac Dam (sometimes spelled Lac Dame). From Lac Dam, the water then flows into Lac Brassard and finally reaches Lac McGregor.

Minerals in the Area

The land around Lac Grand is rich in different minerals. The most common mineral found here is mica, which can be blue or black. You might also find green, caramel, or black serpentine, and even olivine.

History of Lac Grand

Long ago, the area around Lac Grand was an important place for mining. There used to be a mica mine right by the lake. This shows how the land has been used by people over many years.
