Early Life and First Steps in Music
Melesha Katrina O'Garro was born on 15 December 1987. Her parents were from Saint Kitts and Nevis, a country in the Caribbean. She started writing poetry when she was only six years old. Soon, she realized that turning her poems into music would let more people hear her words.
She released her first mixtape (a collection of songs) when she was just fourteen. Music was a big part of her family life. She once said:
I grew up around music. My mum used to play a lot of reggae like Sister Nancy and Bob Marley around thehouse so basically, when I was around six, I was messing about and doing my own little raps and songs. My family are all rappers and singers anyway so I was always involved in it from a young age.
