Lago Verde is a small town in Chile. It is located near the start of the Cisnes River. This town is part of the Coihaique Province in the Aysén Region. The main town, Lago Verde, is also the center for its local government.

History of Lago Verde

Early Inhabitants and Settlement

Long ago, the Tehuelche people lived in this area. They were hunter gatherers who moved around to find food. People have lived here for at least 2,800 years. Some experts think people might have been here even longer, since the end of the last ice age, about 11,400 years ago.

European settlers started arriving in the early 1900s. By 1914, some had settled near the upper parts of the Cisnes River. In the early 1920s, a large farm called "Sociedad Ganadera Cisnes" was created. It covered a huge area, over 1,000 square kilometers (386 square miles). This farm included most of what is now the La Tapera district.

Founding of Towns and Local Government

The area became more organized when Villa La Tapera was officially started on December 26, 1926. Later, in 1936, land was set aside to create the town of Lago Verde.

In 1950, a young man from France named Edward Simon bought land in Lago Verde. He opened a hotel called "Cacique Blanco." He also started farming and ranching to support his hotel. Villa La Tapera became an official town in 1966.

The area continued to grow and develop. In 1979, the "commune" of Lago Verde was created. A commune is like a local government area. Then, in 1981, Lago Verde became a municipality, which means it has its own local government. The town of Villa Amengual was founded in 1982.

Connecting the Region

In 1992, a new road was finished. This road connected Lago Verde to La Junta. A bridge was also built over the Rosselot River. This new road made it much easier for people to travel and communicate within the region.

Population and Area

How Many People Live Here?
