The Lake Apopka Loop Trail is a cool path in Florida that lets you explore the beautiful area around Lake Apopka. It connects two main spots: Magnolia Park and the Green Mountain Scenic Overlook. The St. Johns River Water Management District takes care of this trail, making sure it's a great place for everyone to enjoy nature. You can go hiking or cycling here. Some parts even allow horseback riding.

Exploring the Trail

The Lake Apopka Loop Trail is a paved path. It starts at Magnolia Park. From there, it follows the northern edge of Lake Apopka. It also goes through a special area called a "reclaimed wetland." This is a wetland that has been restored to its natural state.

The trail ends at the Green Mountain Scenic Overlook. About four miles from Magnolia Park, you'll see an old pump house. Here, the trail crosses paths with the Wildlife Drive. For a little over one mile, hikers, cyclists, and cars share the road.

After another 6.5 miles, you'll reach the North Shore Trailhead. Then, after 2.3 more miles, the path joins the Clay Island Trail Loop. From there, it's 1.8 miles to the Clay Island Trailhead. It's 4.8 miles to the Green Mountain Trailhead from this point.

You can find restrooms and water fountains at Magnolia Park. They are also available at the Green Mountain Scenic Overlook. There are also portable toilets at the historic pump house. However, there are no other facilities along the rest of the trail.

How the Trail Started

The first part of the Lake Apopka Loop Trail opened on February 20, 2014. This section went from Magnolia Park to the Clay Island Trailhead. Later, in April 2016, the trail was made longer. This extension connected the Clay Island Trail Loop to the Green Mountain Scenic Overlook and Trailhead.

Amazing Animals You Might See

The north shore of Lake Apopka is a fantastic place for wildlife. Over 360 different kinds of birds have been spotted here. This is the highest number of bird species seen at any single place in Florida!
