Lake Arrowhead is a beautiful human-made lake located high up in the San Bernardino Mountains in California. It's built on a small stream called Little Bear Creek. This stream eventually flows into Deep Creek and then the Mojave River.
The lake covers about 780 acres, which is like 780 football fields! It can hold a huge amount of water, about 48,000 acre-feet. The town of Lake Arrowhead surrounds this special lake.
How Lake Arrowhead Was Created
Lake Arrowhead wasn't always here. It was built by people! The idea for the lake started way back in 1904. The plan was to create a large water system. This system would help bring water for farming to the San Bernardino Valley.
However, there were some disagreements about who owned the water rights. This caused the first construction project to stop. Later, in 1922, a new group called the Arrowhead Lake Company finished building the dam. They wanted to turn the area into a fun resort for people to visit.
Who Can Use Lake Arrowhead?
Today, the Arrowhead Lake Association manages Lake Arrowhead. They make sure the lake is used for fun activities. But there's a special rule: only people who live in Lake Arrowhead and have "lake rights" can use the water. This means it's a private lake for local residents.
The Lake Arrowhead Community Services District also uses water from the lake. They clean it and send it to homes in the area. So, the lake provides drinking water for the community too!
