Lake Balboa is a neighborhood located in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California. This neighborhood used to be part of Van Nuys. It's known for its beautiful lake and many parks.

In 2000, about 24,328 people lived in Lake Balboa. This means there were about 7,754 people per square mile. By 2008, the population grew to an estimated 26,195. The average age of residents in 2000 was 35 years old.

Important streets that form its boundaries include Roscoe Boulevard to the north and Victory Boulevard to the south. White Oak Avenue is to the west, and the Van Nuys Airport and Hayvenhurst Avenue are to the east.

Local Businesses and Economy

MGA Entertainment, a company that makes toys, used to have its main office in the Lake Balboa area. They later moved their headquarters to Chatsworth, which is also in the San Fernando Valley.

Lake Balboa is home to several great parks and recreation areas.

  • Lake Balboa Park (also called Anthony C. Beilenson Park) is a huge 80-acre park. It's part of the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area. The main feature of the park is the 27-acre Lake Balboa. You can fish in the lake, but swimming is not allowed. The park has barbecue areas, a bike path, and a children's play area. There's also a 1.3-mile jogging path. You can use pedal boats or your own motor-free boats on the lake. The park also has beautiful Japanese cherry blossom trees. In 2008, a special playground for all children, including those with disabilities, was opened here.
  • The Japanese Garden is a beautiful modern Japanese garden. It's located within the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area, near the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant.
  • Woodley Park is another park in the Sepulveda Basin. It has an Apollo 3 Flight Field and an archery range. You can also find baseball diamonds, a children's play area, and cricket fields here. It's a great place for picnics and has a wildlife nature preserve.
  • Jesse Owens Mini-Park is a smaller park, about 1.74 acres. It has restrooms and is open to the public.
  • Louise Park is a pocket park with barbecue pits and picnic tables. It has a lighted baseball diamond and outdoor basketball courts. There's also a children's play area.
  • G Line Bikeway is a bike path that follows the landscaped Los Angeles Metro G Line route. It stretches from North Hollywood to Chatsworth.
