Lake Cherokee is a community in Texas, United States. It is located in both Gregg and Rusk counties. About 2,980 people lived there in 2020.
You can find Lake Cherokee about 12 miles southeast of Gregg and northeastern Rusk counties. It sits right on a waterway called Cherokee Bayou. The Cherokee Water Company owns the lake. They use it to provide water for homes, businesses, and fun activities. The lake can hold a lot of water, about 68,700 acre-feet.

Lake Cherokee is a reservoir, which is a large artificial lake used to store water. It was created on Cherokee Bayou. This bayou flows east and eventually joins the Sabine River.

Most of the community is in Rusk County. A smaller part is in Gregg County. The border between the two counties runs through the middle of the lower part of the lake. The upper part of the lake is entirely within Rusk County.
Getting Around Lake Cherokee
Texas State Highway 149 forms the northern edge of the community. This highway can take you to other nearby towns. If you head northwest, you'll reach Longview in about 12 miles. If you go southeast, you'll get to Carthage in about 24 miles.
